Free Festivals, Free Parties and Squat Raves

Festivals, free parties and the traveller life – alternative freedom

Most of my life has been pretty conventional sadly, I had always worked full time, bought a house, paid into a pension scheme and all that. But everyone has free time and just going up the pub and watching TV left me cold. Out there was a much more interesting way to have fun.

The great Magdalen Street Massacre

Anglia Square – demolished in 2016

Magdalen Street in the north of the city was once full of ancient buildings, but it was a very poor area and the people lived in overcrowded houses, close to poverty. In the 1960’s the whole area was flattened to allow for the building of the inner ring road and the brutalist Anglia Square shopping scheme.

These pages were made in 2005, Anglia Square was finally demolished in 2016

COVID – Lockdown Norwich

Locdown Norwich – routes into Norwich

In 2020 the COVID epidemic meant the country – and indeed much of the world – went into lockdown. Everything apart from essential shops were closed and the population were confined to their houses.

However we were allowed to ride bikes for exercise, so I made maximum use of the opportunity to see Norwich as a ghost city, an almost post apocalyptic scene of empty streets.

I was talked into recording the ancient routes into Norwich, mostly leading to the cathedral by my late friend Jack Girling. These videos are the result. This section was originally called “Jack’s Norwich” for that reason.

Survival

The DIY guide to saving lives

The DIY guide to saving lives

Sometimes you’ll see people injuring themselves and, like it or not, the first person on the scene can sometimes be the only hope the casualty has of survival. Not only that, but that first person on the scene just turns out to be you. If that happens, this section is all about what you should do. So it’s a good idea to read it now, before you need it!
